fit Theory II cont...

How do you demonstrate 'fit' ? ... is it important to go for the optional 'applicant initiated interview' ? these interviews are usually conducted at the school so we might have to fly in to the school of our choice and give the interview there,,, as you can imagine its not going to be cheap to just fly to NY or some other plc for an interview ... esp from AU. But it seems that this does make your app stand out ? ... is it a good idea to spend 2 or 3 k and fly to three or four of your fav schools and give the interview in person before applying ? or is it better to just wait until the schools contacts you with an alumni interview ?

--Cheers

I would say, if there is an opportunity (i.e. business trip or a vacation you would anyway like to spend in US), then you should definitely make it. Every school likes when there is an evidence of your true interest. But of course, they understand what it takes for an international applicants, and so the absence of such a visit is not a disadvantage.

You asked me what's the problem with visa for Russian tourist wanting to visit US. Russian citizens are required to obtain visas to the majority of countries of the world, Schengen and US in the top of the list. It is a requirement set by migration legislation of US that a visa applicant must show sound evidences that s/he has no intention of residing in US, such as expensive realty in the country of residence, family etc. So, obtaining a tourist visa for US is a big deal, especially if you are a young single woman :) Add to this that in case of unsuccessful try you will not be able to reapply for visa in next several months, which could be a real mess in case of admission.
